| Introduction of an Assessment System to Improve the Environmental Management System |
| Internal auditing |
TDK has introduced an assessment system that is conducive to improving the environmental management system. Previously, improvements in performance tended to be regarded as the direct result of environmental conservation activities. However, it is essential to improve and enhance the environmental management system itself in order to promote environmental conservation activities even further. TDK took the opportunity of a companywide integration of EMS to conduct site auditing by the Head Office. Using the results of the FY 2005 internal auditing, TDK evaluated the implementation of EMS at each site quantitatively and introduced an assessment system to actively promote improvements in EMS. |

In addition to environmental education programs conduced at each site, TDK reinforces environment education for different job ranks. From FY 2005, environmental education programs have been incorporated into training sessions for newly assigned section chiefs in addition to training sessions for new employees and new subsection chiefs. These education programs for different job ranks are designed to develop personnel who can incorporate the environmental viewpoint into their daily duties and promote environmental conservation activities from each personnel's standpoint. The contents of TDK ECOPLUS, an internal newsletter that is issued as a part of the company's educational efforts, have been restructured as well. Pages directed at employees have been changed to include articles that are familiar to employee family members in hopes of expanding TDK's environmental conservation activities from the company to the employee's family and on to the local community. |

| Introduction of Site Award Programs |

Energy Conservation Award for Akita Site |

Energy Conservation Award for the Mikumagawa Plant |
TDK has introduced a site award program to elevate environmental awareness. Under this program, levels of achievements toward environmental targets to be promoted at each site are assessed and scored. Sites that achieve outstanding results will be awarded. The award program not only commends the achievements of environmental goals but also recognizes organizations and individuals that promote environmental activities and can serve as good examples for the company. In FY 2004, the Facility Section of the General Affairs Department in Akita was awarded for its excellent achievements in energy conservation efforts in the Akita area, and the Mikumagawa Plant was awarded for its energy management levels, which were among the best in the company. |
