TDK's Lineup of Environment-Friendly Products
DC-to-DC Converters - Contributing to Resource Conservation through Miniaturization and Using Halogen-Free Substrates
DC-to-DC Converters
DC-to-DC Converters
TDK's new DC-to-DC converters need only about half the area of conventional products for the same electric power and contribute to resource conservation through their compactness. They are the first standard DC-to-DC converters to utilize halogen-free substrates and can easily replace our conventional products.
Protective Element for Battery Packs - Polymer PTC Thermistors - Reducing Power Consumption of Batteries and Contributing to Longer Operating Life
Polymer PTC Thermistors
Demand for mobile phone and digital still camera battery packs that are smaller and have higher capacity and longer usable hours must be dealt with along with the introduction of more compact and multifunctional devices. To meet such needs, TDK is developing protective elements that would reduce the electric consumption of battery packs and contribute to a longer operating life.
High Performance Magnets - Contributing to Energy Conservation through TDK's Unique Powder Control and Process Technologies
It is said that motors currently account for more than half the total domestic electricity use. Using its unique powder control and process technologies, TDK manufactures magnetic products capable of contributing to the energy saving features of motors.

Ceramic Chip Capacitors to Realize Smaller, Lighter, and More Efficient Products
TDK meets the need for smaller, lighter, and more efficient products by making full use of its process technologies, such as technology that realizes thinner devices, multiplayer technology, layering technique, and coating technology, in addition to developing materials that have a high dielectric constant.

Film Solar Cells and Eco Power Supply Systems - Light, Thin, and Flexible Solar Cells That Do Not Break and Power Supply Systems
Film Solar Cells
TDK offers ultralight, ultrathin, and splinterless film solar cells that are suitable power sources for wristwatches and backup power supplies. We also offer eco power supply systems that make use of the same characteristics.
Multifunction Transformers That Are Made of Renewable Materials and Are Easy to Take Apart
Environment-conscious multifunction transformers
TDK offers environment-conscious, multifunction transformers made of renewable materials. Having simple structures, these transformers are produced using fewer components and fewer processes and can be easily disassembled.

Recording Media Products That Embody Four Aspects of Environmental Consideration
TDK is making an effort to reduce environmental impact by establishing stringent voluntary standards that exceed the requirements of the green procurement standards stipulated by the Japan Recording-Media Industries Association. For new and improved products, particular emphasis is placed on using recycled materials, extending the lifespan of products, using materials with minimal environmental impact, and increasing recycling rates.
VHS cassettes and MD discs use recycled materials in shells
1.VHS cassettes and MD discs use recycled materials in shells

The shells of VHS cassettes are made from 100%-recycled polystyrene resin. The shells of MD discs are made from 50%-polycarbonate resin recycled from discarded discs.
DVDs use recycled dummy substrates
2.DVDs use recycled dummy substrates

The label sides of DVD discs are made from 100%-recycled dummy substrates. Also, the tray portion of plastic cases, indexes, and storage boxes are made from 100%-recycled materials.
Increasing the lifespan of DVDs
3.Increasing the lifespan of DVDs

TDK applies superhard coating materials to the recording surfaces of DVD discs and includes a pigment that cuts ultraviolet rays in the substrate material. Also, the surface is resistant to fingerprints and can be cleaned by gently wiping it.
Nonuse of Asbestos in TDK Products
1. Current Products
TDK uses no asbestos in the products it currently sells due to the effects the material has on health, as reported in newspapers and television.

2. Use of Asbestos in Previous Products
Trace amounts of asbestos were used in the following TDK products in the past.
  • Power supply EMC filter products
Asbestos used as filler in plastic insulation bushes: Products sold from 1975 to April 2001
  • Plastic magnetic products
Asbestos used as filler in plastic magnets: Products sold from 1975 to March 1996
  • Transformer products
Asbestos used as filler in bobbin materials: Products sold from 1986 to 1993
There is little possibility of the asbestos becoming airborne because all asbestos used was in a solidified state.
