Environmental impact data of electronic components
The TDK group is taking the initiative in achieving carbon neutrality in line with the basic environmental action plan named "TDK Environmental Action 2020".
Carbon neutrality means the condition where the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere as a result of manufacturing activities is balanced with the amount of reduction of CO2 emissions in society through provision of products and know-how.
TDK, as a company, takes its own initiative to promote advanced concepts such as carbon neutrality. Meanwhile, TDK participates in the activities of the Electronic Components Board of the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association ("JEITA") as a leading company in the electronic components manufacturing industry to develop the infrastructure for Japan's electronic components manufacturers to smoothly conduct their business activities.
Recently, the Electronic Components Board of JEITA has released to the public, as an outcome of its activities, the life cycle inventory ("LCI") and carbon foot print ("CFP") data of general-purpose electronic components.
Both of them are defined to quantify environmental impact associated with manufacture of electronic components. Their primary purpose is to help electronic components manufacturers meet customers' needs, circumvent confusion and reduce work load associated with compliance to the standards(*) that require grasping and disclosing environmental impact information in supply chains, which is under study in Japan, EU and other countries.
