Did you know...?
How does the GPS function in my smartphone know where I am?
By actually catching signals from space!
Most smartphones and even mobile phones these days have a function that shows you on a map exactly where you are. This is possible thanks to signals from GPS satellites that orbit the Earth. There are 24 satellites in all, but by receiving the signals from at least three of them, one's position can be determined fairly accurately. An important part of the process is knowing from which satellite the received signals have been sent. This is done with the help of a component called the antenna. Antennas made by TDK are working their magic in smartphones and mobile phones all over the world.
