How is wind power harnessed to produce electricity?
A powerful motor used as a generator can achieve this.
When connected to a source of electricity, an electric motor will start to rotate, but this also works in reverse, allowing power to be produced by turning the motor shaft with an external force. This is the principle of an electric generator. Such a generator sits at the center of the blades of a wind turbine. When these are turned by the wind, the generator produces an electric output. In order to work efficiently, a generator needs to be equipped with powerful magnets. This is a crucial aspect for wind power turbines. TDK manufactures high-performance products called neodymium magnets which are widely used for wind power generation.
